    Headquartered in Niagara Falls, New York, Calspan’s Flight Research center is home to a fleet of aircraft that include Learjets, Gulfstream III, and a Premier. These aircraft are used for variable stability programs, flight equipment testing, and a variety of other projects for private and government organizations.  We are looking for a motivated Program Manager to join our team and continue our rich tradition of modifying and flying test aircraft.


    Due to the security requirements for this position, US Citizenship is required. 


    The Controls Engineer leads and performs flight control engineering work associated with in-flight simulation in Calspan’s Variable-Stability aircraft.

    • Combines advanced knowledge of control system theory with sound knowledge of aircraft aerodynamics (including linear and non-linear aerodynamic modeling) to design and analyze flight control systems.
    • Analyze and manage project requirements, derive lower-tier requirements and maintain traceability throughout the documentation chain to the design implementation.
    • Design and implement verification tools for testing flight control models using appropriate state-of-the-art engineering tools.
    • Provide detailed design reviews of aircraft flight performance based on analytical models and emipircal data to internal and external customers.
    • Coordinate with team members to integrate flight control models into System Integration Lab (SIL) computers and into flight test aircraft computers.


    Preferred Education / Experience:

    • B.S. in either Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
    • 5+ years work experience in flight control systems.
    • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.

    Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 

    • Control systems theory with good working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink is required.
    • Working knowledge of aircraft dynamics, flight data analysis, and parameter identification.
    • Experience with integrating control models into lab hardware and performing verification testing.
    • Flight testing and evaluations of aircraft stability and control
    • Flying/handling qualities, flight control systems and other airborne systems
