    The Sled Test Engineer will hold a leadership role within Calspan’s Sled Test  group.  A customer centric, close knit, hardworking, accountable and responsible team who leverage their strong technical aptitude and experience to provide world-class sled test services. Working in Calspan’s new, Seattle Safety Servo Sled, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter working in a “hands on” position.

    Responsibilities

    • Must be able to function as part of a team and work cooperatively toward team goals.
    • Have good time management skills and are able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
    • Participate in customer meetings, review test plans and pro-actively make recommendations.
    • Lead and coordinate the preparation of test articles, vehicles, instrumentation and test facility.
    • Perform test article positioning, crash test dummy positioning, take measurements and successfully execute tests.
    • Analyze test results, generate test reports and ensure on-time delivery of all deliverables.
    • Identify issues, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective countermeasures.

    Qualifications

    Preferred Education:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
    • 3-5 years of automotive experience in Safety Testing.
    • Experience in coordinating a team.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships with test teams and customers.
      • Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines.

    Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
     

    • Working knowledge of automotive crash test protocols (FMVSS, ECE, IIHS, USNCAP, and EuroNCAP).
    • Experience in executing sled tests and vehicle crash tests.
    • Experience with Anthropomorphic Test Devices.
    • Familiar with data acquisition systems (DTS/Kistler), control systems, various transducer technologies.
    • Experience in analyzing data using available tools (DiaDAM, ProAnalyst, TEMA).
    • Experience with interpretation of injury assessment values and various Star ratings is a plus.
    • Exceptional analytical skills. Able to draw conclusions from raw data to support decision-making.
    • Excellent mechanical ability.
    • Has integrity, confidence, listens and has a “can do” attitude. Ability to resolve obstacles, see opportunities while facing difficulties.
    • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical subjects succinctly to other team members, management and customers.
    • Ambitious, self-starter.
    • Very proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
