Overview

Headquartered in Niagara Falls, NY, Calspan’s Flight Research center is home to a fleet of experimental aircraft that include Learjets, Gulfstream G-III’s, and a Premier. Additionally, we support the VISTA X-62A at the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB, CA.  These aircraft are used to conduct a variety of experimental flight test programs for our private and government customers.  We are looking for a motivated Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering, to continuing our rich, 75-year tradition of modifying and flying unique test aircraft.

Responsibilities

This individual will provide guidance and expertise in a variety of engineering work in testing aerospace systems and components and to investigate, evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems. 

  • Manage administrative responsibilities (scheduling, timekeeping, budgeting) . Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding work and performance.  Manage non-performing employees in accordance with company policy.  Manage high potential employees to career succession and growth opportunities
  • Lead and perform mechanical engineering work associated with aircraft modifications.
  • Oversee ground and flight test programs using company and/or customer aircraft.
  • Produce, maintain, review and/or improve engineering data and/or drawings, including design layouts, three-dimensional models, and detailed structural and system analyses.
  • Support the development of technical documentation including proposals, project plans, system requirements definition, ground and flight test plans and results, and related technical reports.
  • Coordinate with FAA certification authorities for Supplemental Type Certificates (STC).

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Advanced degree preferred with experience in aircraft structures
  • 10+ years in Aero/Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Previous experience in management position; Demonstrated success in leading/working within a multi-disciplined team
  • Aviation-related experience preferred

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Project management  
  • Experience in proposal development and presentation
  • NX proficiency
  • Familiar in GD&T stack-up
  • Familiar in using 3D-CAD design tools, including FEA
  • Understanding of aircraft structure engineering methods  
  • Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
