Overview

Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system.  We are an engineering products based company with excellent prototype and low-rate production machining capability. We are seeking an Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Partner with Sr. Engineer to approve the design and stress analysis for assigned projects and provides assistance and guidance to engineers, designers and drafters
  • Design mechanical and electromechanical systems to meet task requirements
  • Partners with lead engineer on projects for larger programs and assume technical lead responsibility for small to medium tasks

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering discipline;
  • 5-7 years of experience
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Working knowledge of mechanical design techniques, drawing checking, drafting standards, and geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Previous exposure to machining and fabrication processes, interaction with shop personnel, and familiarity with manufacturing techniques are required
  • Familiar with selecting materials, fasteners, and components necessary to satisfy model requirements
  • Checks drawings to assure correctness and completeness
  • Conducts support tests such as calibrations, load tests, and operational readiness demonstrations
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work on multiple projects, and prioritize workload
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • May be required to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Must be PC literate and have a working knowledge of CAD systems (NX preferred)
