Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system.  We are an engineering products based company with excellent prototype and low-rate production machining capability. We are seeking a QMS Manager to join our team.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  •  Maintain and progress the Quality Management Systems to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 / AS 9100, National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation program (NADCAP), SABRE and customer directed quality programs. Identify and implement improvements to the current standards by working with customers and peers.
  • Partner with Sr. Management to determine the risks and opportunities that can affect product conformity. Introduce corrective and preventive actions to remedy concerns as well as administer risk management plans. Develop processes as deemed necessary as a result of any non-conformances. Ensure all training requirements are met. Conduct Continuous Improvement processes to improve processes and procedures.
  • Partner with customers to ensure supplier quality maintenance through reviewing Purchase Orders and Contracts for quality flow down requirements. Manage quality requirements of program specific jobs by interfacing with Quality Control and Programs to complete program packages.  Review and certify all final buy off documents including providing final signature on outgoing shipments by verifying accuracy of all components/documents. Provide inspection support to the Quality Control team.
  • Maintain and lead the internal audit, resolution of audit, share findings with auditing groups and inspectors through all stages of the audits to verify the effectiveness of the system. Report the effectiveness of the QMS to senior management via quarterly management review meetings. Recommend and implement relevant changes to the QMS including working with the applicable stakeholder to ensure timely and acceptable resolution of internal and external corrective action reports.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline
  • 5-7+ years of related discipline
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Experience with ISO administration and compliance
  • Knowledge of NADCAP accreditation program
  • In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures and best practices
  • Detailed Knowledge of ISO and AS management systems requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work to ISO 9001 / AS 9000 compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP’s 17 Special processes including Aerospace Quality Systems Standard: AS/EN/JISQ9100 and AS/EN9110
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • High level of competency and accuracy in writing and maintaining clear and professional documentation relating to integrated management systems
  • Strong planning, organizational, teamwork and presentation skills
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze quality issues in the engineering and manufacturing phases
