Calspan’s 8T Transonic Wind Tunnel, is the only independently owned and operated wind tunnel in the United States. Calspan has been at the forefront of the aviation industry providing customers with data essential to their air vehicle development programs for over 76 years. Our team is known for its flexibility and responsiveness to our customer’s needs. Customers appreciate this approach as it enables them, in real-time, to refine test programs. We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer who excels in working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team environment.

 

As a member of Calspan’s 8T Transonic Wind Tunnel team, the successful candidate will partner with a dedicated team of engineers, technicians, electricians, and mechanics. This team will work diligently to modernize electrical systems and develop state-of-the-art electrical systems to expand the capability of the Calspan 8T wind tunnel.  Specific projects for this position include the design and development of motion control systems, including robotics and health monitoring networks for machines and power systems with predictive capabilities.  Completion of these primary job responsibilities will ensure that our tunnel remains an efficient and agile provider of critical data for decades to come.

Responsibilities

 

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Support execution of testing operations in accurate and efficient manner.  Apply knowledge of engineering techniques to accurately complete and assign tasks within budget and scheduling restraints.

  • Conduct tests and analyze feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical equipment systems.

  • Develop new applications and test procedures.

  • Maintain engineering data and/or drawings, which includes layouts, three-dimensional models, and structural analyses.

  • Develop technical documentation including engineering plans, requirements definition, test procedures, installation design plans and related technical reports.

  • Provide technical guidance to personnel involved in developing design approaches and executing test procedures.  Review and correct drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Masters/Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in related industry 
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
  • Due to security requirements, US Citizenship is required

 Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Experience with large industrial equipment including Robotics and PLC’s
  • Work with suppliers for power systems requirements development and upgrades
  • Ability to create novel solutions and drive projects to completion
  • Experience with precision control systems
  • Experience with software development practice
