Flight operations at Calspan consist of a large portfolio of engineering, flight, and research activities. Headquartered in Niagara Falls, New York, Calspan’s Flight Research center is home to a fleet of aircraft that include Learjets, Gulfstream III, and a Premier. We are looking for an Senior Aeronautical Engineer to be responsible for performing a variety of engineering work in testing aircrafts and conducting research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircrafts.  This is a great opportunity to be part of an organization with a rich 75-year history that prides itself on its Be Calspan Values. Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.


  • Develop and integrate flight control software for Calspan’s fleet of experimental aircraft. 
  • Lead verification and validation of flight control systems. This includes software-based testing, lab testing and on-aircraft testing. 
  • Understand complex systems engineering problems and formulate a path to a potential solution. 
  • Author test plans and reports in support of verification and validation activities as well as other technical reports in support of experimental flight test activities.
  • Oversee and participate in peer review processes and other collaborative team activities in order to ensure quality deliverables. 
  • Lead technical interchange meetings with customers including formal design reviews.


Preferred Education 

  • Bachelors degree in related Engineering discipline
  • Due to security requirements, US citizenship is required

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Aeronautical engineering methods and tools – High proficiency level with Matlab and Simulink preferred
  • Experience with control system design
  • Source control concepts and best practices – preferably Git
  • Technical report writing – including test plans and procedures
  • Engineering design process principles, including requirements development, design reviews and formal release processes
  • Ability to identify, solve, and implement solutions independently
