Calspan ASE is the world’s number one supplier of ground-based testing solutions and expertise for the aerospace industry. Our customers get a single, experienced partner to help them efficiently validate engine and airframe performance across development, production and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). We are seeking a motivated Controls Engineering Intern for the summer of 2023 responsible for design, implementation, test, and support of controls, software, and data acquisition systems used in test cells, wind tunnels, and other aerospace ground test facilities.

• Design and Analysis - Develop or reuse system design solution to meet customer requirements.  Partner with designers and project lead to deliver complete design package (drawings, BOMs, Etc.).  Design and develop electronic subsystems, including data acquisition systems, control and integration of electro-mechanical valves and instrumentation (temperatures, pressures, flow, etc.), control loops, electrical control systems, junction boxes, and panel layouts.
• Communication - Communicate regularly with project team on status, issues, and variances to plan.
• Document - Document and present work in accordance with quality requirements. Prepare design criteria, calculation packages, procurement specifications, technical reports, validation plans, and product manuals. Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
• Support - Interface with procurement, production, and installation teams to quickly resolve issues discovered during assembly and test. 
• Quote - Assist marketing in developing proposals for future work.  Develop concepts, cost estimates, proposal write-ups, analyses, options, and recommendations.

Preferred Education / Experience:

• Must be currently enrolled in a Computer or Electrical Engineering program at an accredited college or university
• Must have completed (3) years of undergraduate studies by May 2023

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with CAD (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc)
• Familiarity with PLCs and software programming
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills, demonstrated initiative and attention to completeness, accuracy and detail
