Overview

At Calspan, we use a 12” HYGE impact simulator sled to simulate crash events. For this type of testing, fixtures are attached to a carriage that rides on a set of rails. These fixtures, which are used in conjunction with the product being tested, may be an automobile’s body (commonly referred to as a Body-In-White), automotive seats or benches built to a standard for the evaluation of child restraint systems (i.e., child car seats).

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for preparing and executing individual component and full scale vehicle crash simulation tests on a HYGE Sled.

 

Must be able to work 10:30 AM - 7:30 PM.

  • Conduct tests in accordance with customer requirements, standard test procedures and work instructions.  Take measurements, document results through procedures, checklists, photographs and high-speed video.  Create test reports using MS Office software.
  • Setup test articles, high-speed cameras and instrumentation.  Perform equipment calibration, and repairs. 
  • Maintain, repair, upgrade test systems and equipment to maximize operational availability, and the fidelity and accuracy of test data.
  • Support test preparations by building and installing test equipment. Complete mechanical modifications to test articles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, data collection, electronic problems with test equipment and measurement devices. Perform, cable routing, soldering and test facility setup.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • AAS in related discipline
  • 3 + years in related discipline, military experience or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
  • Proficiency with computer skills, MS office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project), and Adobe products

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Must be able to work assigned hours as required to meet customer testing needs – may include overtime, nights and weekends.
  • Able to lift, carry, push and pull 50 pounds, either individually or with equipment such as carts and cranes.
  • Capable of climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and stooping to move and install equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and shop equipment, for the servicing automobiles.
  • Ability to read and build from engineering drawings
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication skills
