Overview

Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system. We are looking for a motivated Machinist / Programmer to join our team!

Responsibilities

$2,000 sign-on bonus

  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant low, and depth and angle of cut; adjust machine controls or control media as required; run proof work piece to identify possible problems
  • Set up, and operate precision and production machines such as conventional and/or CNC mills, lathes, jig borers, and grinders to machine parts to specifications and/or to precision tolerances; Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant low, and depth and angle of cut; adjust machine controls or control media as required
  • Select cutting tools, machine speeds, and feed rates; write instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine
  • Analyze and evaluate computer test-runs and prove-outs to determine if specifications are met; determine procedural and programming logic to improve proficiency and accuracy of CNC program
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Associates Degree;
  • 7+ years of related discipline; or
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

 

Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 

  • Proficient with GD&T
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Strong working knowledge of comprehensive 3D CAD systems such as MasterCam or NX
  • Soild knowledge of manufacturing operations
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of CNC machines and controllers
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, and proportions to practical situations.
