Overview

Calspan Systems in Newport News, VA is an industry leader in the engineering and manufacture of complex aerospace hardware and prototype systems for ground test and flight applications. We have been employed in the development of nearly every domestic fixed-wing aircraft, missile, and helicopter system. We are looking for a Lead Engineer join our team. This position is responsible for researching, planing, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of engineers through conceptual and detailed design and analysis of aerospace mechanical, fluid and electrical products and test systems. Manages all task requirements and distributes them to team members in discrete tasks. Mentors and checks the work of team members as required to achieve the task at hand.


• Performs CAD modeling, stress hand calculations, mechanical design, instrumentation packaging, material research, tolerance stacks and other related tasks to progress the engineering solution.


• Support customer interface meetings, internal project status meetings, and tracks engineering schedule and budget performance at a task level.


• Generates project bill of materials, resource requests, engineering reports, design review presentations, assembly & instrumentation instructions, interface control documents, and other related documents to record and disseminate the engineering solution to customers as well as downstream functions.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience: 

• Experienced in the design and analysis of gas turbine, ramjet and scramjet engines and/or liquid propellant rockets and related system design and analysis.
• Experienced with engineering CAD codes; preferably SOLIDWORKS and/or NX.
• Experienced with engineering thermal and structural analysis codes; preferably ANSYS.
• General understanding of computational fluid dynamic techniques and limitations.
• Familiar with aerospace test device instrumentation sensors and selection for specific test objectives.
• Experienced with detailed drawing checking, GD&T and tolerance stacks.
• US citizenship required to obtain/maintain a DOD security clearance.
