Overview

Calspan has been at the forefront of aircraft Flying Qualities (FQ), Pilot-Induced Oscillation (PIO), and Upset Recovery Training (URT) research and instruction in variable stability aircraft for decades. We operated the USAF NT-33 T-Bird and C-131H Total In-Flight Simulator (TIFS) variable stability aircraft and continue to operate the X-62A Variable Stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft (VISTA).  

 

The VISTA X-62A Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical and technical support on a VISTA F-16 aircraft under supervision.  This includes operating and maintaining core F-16 mechanical, hydraulic, flight controls, propulsion, avionics, electrical, and VISTA-specific systems in support of normal flight operations and flight test activities. This position is located at our EAFB location. 

Responsibilities

Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Perform inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair equipment both on and off VISTA X-62A aircraft.
  • Rig flight control systems, landing gear, and VISTA specific equipment.       
  • Preform aircraft launch and recover, refuel, LOX, service pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Maintain proficiencies with AGE equipment, test equipment, and aircraft specific task tooling.
  • Install modified components and hardware and perform system operation checks to verify working order.
  • Assist in modifications of aircraft test systems, build wire harnesses, and component rack assemblies.
  • Follow established quality assurance procedures with regard to all work performed on the VISTA X-62 aircraft.

Qualifications

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • F-16 mechanic 3 level certification;
  • 3+ years in either hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or aircraft avionics;
  • A combination of education, and/or experience equivalent to above.

Preferred Knowledge/Ability:

  • Flight line experience on jet propulsion aircraft.
  • Aircraft systems and associated support and test equipment.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Information Systems such as Electronic Maintenance Instructions and Aircraft Forms Documentation.
  • Familiarity of Tool Control, FOD, and HAZMAT.
  • Ability to travel.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for a US government security clearance.
