The Calspan Automotive Crash Facility, located in Buffalo, NY, is an international leader in automotive crash testing and is always improving and advancing the science. The Barrier Technician will work with the Barrier team to install and remove barriers for testing.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Execute the tasks necessary for installation of barrier test articles, including site layout, equipment operation (excavator, dump truck, backhoe), carpentry forming and reinforcing steel installation, concrete placement and finishing, sitework and backfill.
  • Carry out activities associated post-test barrier removal, include disposal of barriers and site clean-up.
  • Maintain all equipment, coordinate vendors for repairs when needed and perform preventative maintenance as recommended by equipment manufacturers.
  • Interpret blueprints and perform material take offs to ensure the correct materials and proper quantities of materials are ordered in a timely manner. Provide cost estimates as needed.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Associates degree in a related discipline;
  • 3+ years in related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 

  • Proficient in concrete placement & finishing, carpentry forming, reinforcing steel installation

  • CDL (Class C) license required

  • Ability to acquire and maintain an OSHA 30 DOL card

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

  • Possess strong customer service and communication skill

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
