Overview

Calspan JETS provides mission critical systems for testing commercial and military jet engines.  A key system within our portfolio is the data acquisition and control system (DACS) which is a real-time system for monitoring and controlling thousands of parameters from the engine under test and throughout the facility.  This critical and visible management role is responsible for leading an integrated team of hardware and software personnel focused on the development, commissioning, and support of new and upgraded data systems to a global customer base.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Manage in alignment with Calspan Values. Lead with the intent to create a respectful and healthy work culture that embraces inclusion and collaboration. Create awareness in others of their abilities; challenge the Team and provide support by allowing them to take appropriate risks. Create an environment in which others feel ownership for results and feel comfortable taking action to achieve desired results.
  • Direct a team of more than 20 people consisting of managers, product leads, engineers, and designers. Contribute to project execution plans and recommend project or group staffing adjustments to maintain project milestone commitments.
  • Establish the department mission and direct activities that balance backlog commitments with product development and productivity improvements that align with business value drivers.
  • Collaborate regularly with the department leader, project managers, product line leaders, and direct reports on project status, issues, and variances to plan.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding the performance of the entire team with a commitment to motivate, train, and develop.  
  • Assist marketing in developing proposals for future work. Develop concepts, cost estimates, execution plans, proposal write-ups, analyses, options, and recommendations.

Qualifications

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science;
  • 9+ years in a related discipline;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above

Preferred Knowledge /Ability:

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to motivate and influence multifunctional teams.
  • Experience leading teams of 10+ people and building a team-oriented culture.
  • Experience balancing decision making and delegation, setting strategies for teams to execute.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and lead within a dynamic environment.
  • Systemic thinker with a success-oriented mindset and ability to operate at the appropriate detail level of a senior management role.
  • 10% international and/or domestic travel
  • Experience with design and implementation of automation systems, measurement systems, electronics, software, or data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with PLCs, electro-mechanical systems, or software programming preferred.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 (National Electric Code).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or SolidWorks for designing and troubleshooting electrical systems.

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
