We seek a Test Engineering Manager to work either second or third shift. Calspan’s Transonic wind tunnel operates continuously to produce high-quality data and reduce uncertainty. Our agile teams are great collaborators who ensure customer tests proceed in an organized and timely manner. Throughout the testing process, we manage potential risks with our integrated solutions, including balance design, production, calibration, and model positioning systems. 

 

This position will manage the execution of customer test programs. It will assign engineering staff to meet pre-test, test, and post-test objectives.  It will identify opportunities to improve tunnel customer deliverables and operational efficiency and maintain relevant processes and documentation.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

Manager Responsibilities:

  • Manage with the intent to motivate, train and develop. Manage administrative responsibilities (scheduling, timekeeping, budgeting). Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding work and performance.  Manage non-performing employees in accordance with company policy.  Manage high-potential employees to career succession and growth opportunities.
  • Support the accurate and efficient execution of aerospace testing operations. Organize test objectives and requirements and communicate them to the test crew. Verify and validate aerodynamic test data. Monitor progress and provide feedback to the test crew. Maintain close coordination with the customer. Communicate status to leadership.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding test execution, troubleshooting, and pretest activities. Maintain close communication with the customer. Communicate test requirements, plans, and changes to the project team. Ensure projects are completed in accordance with the project plan and in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Assisting in maintaining schedules, assessing risk, monitoring and improving data quality, as well as communicating with other shifts.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures for the department's engineering and technical work.
  • Lead or assist on special projects to determine, develop, and implement new technologies for future growth in capabilities and offerings.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering or related discipline;
  • 9+ years’ experience in a testing environment
  • Previous experience in management position or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above;
  • Due to the security requirements for this position, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Experience with wind tunnel operational principles.
  • Experience with experiment test methods & industrial testing.
  • Experience with flow visualization techniques.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Application of project management practices (metrics, tracking, etc.).
  • Experience with data acquisition, signal conditioning and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and manage engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage abstract and concrete variables.
  • History of mentoring Engineers, Co-ops / Interns, and Technicians.
  • Travel required (approximately 5%)

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.

 

All candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.

USD $110,000.00/Yr.

USD $132,000.00/Yr.
