Responsibilities

This working manager position oversees the full vehicle preparation process from receipt through crash to ensure customer test criteria are met. 

  • Manage in alignment with our Company Values. Lead with the intent to create a respectful and healthy work culture that embraces inclusion. Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding performance with a commitment to motivate, train, and develop. Manage administrative responsibilities and assume full responsibility for accomplishments of department functions.
  • Provide guidance and direction on vehicle and test facility setup. Work with the Technician team to instrument test vehicles and cameras in accordance with customer requirements, standard test procedures, and work instructions.  Ensure mechanical modifications to test articles and equipment are completed accurately. 
  • Work closely with Engineers and Operations Manager to ensure vehicle is prepared in alignment with the customers test requirements. Take measurements using 3D coordinate measurement machine, document results through procedures, checklists, photographs and high-speed video.  Create test reports using MS Office software.
  • Ensure test systems and equipment are properly maintained to maximize operational availability and accuracy of vehicle crash test data. Perform equipment calibration and repairs. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, data collection, electronic problems with test equipment and measurement devices.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline;
  • 7+ years of relevant experience; or
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Experience with automotive safety testing in accordance with FMVSS and/or ECE procedures.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumenting vehicles with accelerometers and pressure sensors along with fabricating test fixtures.
  • Experience with MS office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project), and Adobe products
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used to maintain and repair vehicles.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and shop equipment, for the servicing automobiles.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work assigned hours as required to meet customer testing needs – may include overtime and some nights and weekends during high-demand periods

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
