We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Fluid Packages to join our growing team!

Option to work 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities

  • Design and Analysis – Support the design of custom fluid packages that facilitate jet engine testing. Typical packages control delivery of air, fuel, oil, and water. Partner with engineers, designers, technicians, and project teams to design and deliver complete systems to meet unique customer requirements. Design piping systems, valving and metering systems, and pressure vessels. Size and select instrumentation and components. Support manufacturing, testing, and integration of systems.
  • Scope, Schedule, Budget – Support delivery of project within planned schedule and budget. Ensure system design aligns with as-sold scope, customer requirements, quality standards, and industry codes.  Communicate regularly with project team on status, issues, and variances to plan. 
  • Document – Organize documentation in accordance with quality requirements. Prepare design packages, design specifications, technical reports, and verification and validation plans. Participate and lead internal and external design reviews.
  • Support - Interface with procurement, production, and engineering teams to quickly resolve issues discovered during assembly and test. Work with subcontractors on designs. Travel  to suppliers and installation sites to support acceptance testing, checkout, and installations.
  • Quote - Assist marketing in developing proposals for future work. Develop concepts, cost estimates, schedule estimates, proposal write-ups, analyses, options, and recommendations.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of related experience or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Experience with design & analysis of fluid packages or process equipment systems including components such as piping and hose, valves, meters, filters, pumps, instruments, fittings, etc. for pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, and/or cooling water systems. Experience with component sizing and selection.
  • Experience performing static and transient pressure drop and flow analysis, preferably using AFT Fathom and AFT Arrow software tools or similar.
  • Experience with P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling. SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Experience with support and frame design, preferably steel welded and bolted structures.
  • Experience with structural analysis, preferably ANSYS FEA.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and leadership skills, demonstrated initiative and attention to completeness, accuracy, and detail.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to balance priorities between multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively and productively as an individual contributor and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Jet engine test and design experience.
  • Design & analysis experience of pressure vessels & piping systems (ASME BPVC, B31.3, PED, GB150, etc.).
  • Ability to understand and comply to local codes and requirements such as CE, ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% international and/or domestic

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
