Our dedicated team designs and builds state-of-the-art engine test cell facilities and equipment, and offers aftermarket service to meet jet engine test demands. In the area of turbomachinery, Calspan’s team continues a 20-year tradition of setting industry standards for quality with the design and manufacture of turbomachinery test articles and equipment. 

 

As the Director, Sales & Business Development, you will spearhead the Calspan JETS commercial strategy, driving results through disciplined pricing, profitable new business acquisition, and operational productivity. You’ll cultivate strong customer relationships, refine scalable sales processes, and deliver accurate forecasts to guide strategic decisions. This is a high-visibility role with direct influence on our growth trajectory and market presence.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

 

  • Manage in alignment with our Company Values. Lead with the intent to create a respectful and healthy work culture that embraces inclusion. Create awareness in others of their abilities; involve others and share authority in planning and decision-making; challenge the Team and provide support by allowing them to take appropriate risks. Create an environment where others feel ownership of results and are comfortable taking action to achieve their desired outcomes. Provide timely, constructive feedback regarding performance with a commitment to motivate, train, and develop. Manage administrative responsibilities and assume full responsibility for the accomplishments of department functions.
  • Manage the sales team to deliver clean, profitable orders to the business in alignment with company strategy and the value drivers of Price, Productivity, and Profitable new business.
  • Maintain relationships with key customers and bring the voice of the customer back to the business.
  • Forecast the business from a bookings and margin perspective on an annual, quarterly, and monthly basis. Present forecasts and opportunity reviews to senior leadership as required.
  • Work with the assigned Key Account Managers to ensure that Key Account Plans are current and actionable.
  • Professionally represent the company at various business conferences, trade shows, and community events. Increase our visibility within the technical/lecture communities.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with Miller Heiman sales methodology
  • Experience in a technical sales environment preferred

Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 

  • Demonstrated ability to close complex high-value orders in a business-to-business environment.
  • Experience with sales strategy and key account management using Miller Heiman methodologies or similar.
  • Strategic thinker who can develop deep relationships with customers.
  • Existing relationships with Aerospace OEM’s, airlines, and MRO providers
  • Strategic thinker, passionate about driving growth, customer management/relationship building skills
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills; expertise in writing documents and presentations in a highly dynamic environment 
  • A self-starter, risk-taking, highly innovative individual with strong organizing and time management skills to handle multiple priorities, responsibilities, and customer needs. 
  • 40-50% travel required.

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
