Calspan proudly operates the only independently owned and operated subsonic/transonic wind tunnel in the United States. We collaborate closely with our customers throughout every phase of testing, enabling real-time refinements that drive innovation forward.

 

We’re currently seeking a Senior Electrician to join our team and help ensure the reliability and peak performance of our wind tunnel operations. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work on complex electrical systems and assist with test model setups—all within a high-stakes, cutting-edge environment.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

 

 Must be willing to work 2nd shift. This position offers shift differential! 

  • Layout, install, repair, and maintain all types of electrical equipment such as generators, motors, transformers, high tension lines, switches, lighting circuits, starters, and switchboards. 
  • Use complicated charts, tables, and drawings, shop mathematics, handbook formulas, judgment, and experience in the reading and interpolation of charts, gauges, meters, and other precision instruments.
  • Perform a variety of construction and repair work.  Wire complex circuits and perform some rigging.
  • Fabricate or modify equipment as required for Wind Tunnel testing.
  • Make model and calibration setups and assist in running calibrations.
  • Adjust and prepare Wind Tunnel equipment in readiness for operation.
  • Localize Wind Tunnel equipment failures and remedy minor trouble quickly to prevent lost time in the operation of the tunnel.
  • Operate consoles in the control room as required.

Qualifications

To comply with U.S. export control regulations, the applicant must be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government. 

 

Preferred Education / Experience for Electrician:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (preferably from a vocational/technical school)
  • Experience in an electrical trade 

Preferred Knowledge / Ability for Electrician:

  • Clear understanding and operation of High Voltage switching of 115kv switchgear.
  • Diversified knowledge of Sub-Station methods and safety practices, shop methods, and operation and control of power or process equipment.
  • Broad knowledge of fundamentals of electricity and operation of electrical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Ohm's Law, handbook and wattage formulas, and National Electric Code requirements for wiring and installations
  • Use of precision measuring instruments such as voltage testers, ohmmeters, and watt meters.
