We are looking for a motivated Senior Machinist to join our team in our Buffalo, NY location.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications to plan and machine precision components using available equipment, achieving tight tolerances and meeting established production timelines. Independently set up and operate vertical and horizontal CNC lathes, milling machines, and drill presses; clean, scribe, and prepare materials and parts as required.

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections of components, sub‑assemblies, assemblies, jigs, fixtures, and mock‑ups using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform fitting, trimming, adjusting, forming, and shaping operations on assemblies with irregular contours, angles, and hole patterns, maintaining extremely close tolerances.
  • Identify, review, and resolve discrepancies in drawings, specifications, or work instructions with team members and customer representatives; troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Maintain accountability for assigned tools, machines, and equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance to support operational reliability.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferably from a vocational or technical school)
  • Formal trades training in machining, tool and die, or a related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

 

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of electricity, shop practices, principles of mechanics, and material properties
  • Ability to apply advanced shop mathematics, trigonometry, and handbook formulas; interpret oral instructions, complex drawings, specifications, and sketches
  • Proficient in the use of a wide variety of precision measuring instruments, including dial indicators, micrometers, levels, protractors, surface gauges, and height gauges
  • Advanced problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in machining and tool and die applications

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
