Join a Global Leader in Automotive Crash Testing

 

Calspan’s Automotive Crash Facility, located in Buffalo, NY, is recognized worldwide for its leadership in vehicle safety testing. With a mission to advance the science of crash testing, we’re seeking a skilled Technician who is responsible for supporting the setup, operation, maintenance, and execution of testing at our outdoor test facility. This position works as part of a team to prepare and execute testing activities while ensuring equipment, systems, and work areas are safe, reliable, and ready for operation.

No prior testing experience is required. If you have strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy working with your hands, and are eager to learn, we'll provide training.

Responsibilities

  • Support the setup, preparation, and execution of outdoor testing activities.
  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment, test systems, and support infrastructure.
  • Assist with installation and setup of instrumentation, cameras, and data collection equipment.
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Perform post-test activities including equipment recovery, cleanup, inspection, and preparation for future operations.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operations personnel to complete testing activities and special projects.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical, automotive, manufacturing, industrial maintenance, construction, equipment operation, or similar hands-on technical work is preferred.
  • Technical school, military experience, apprenticeships, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience will be considered.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical instructions.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Welding, machining, fabrication, vehicle maintenance, or equipment repair experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
