Overview

Calspan is seeking a skilled and motivated Aircraft Mechanic to join our team at our Patuxent River (PAX) location. In this role, you will support the inspection, maintenance, repair, modification, and troubleshooting of aircraft systems to ensure safe and reliable flight operations. Working alongside pilots, engineers, and technical specialists, you will play a critical role in maintaining airworthiness and supporting a variety of flight test, research, and operational programs.

 

The ideal candidate is a hands-on aviation professional with strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to procedures and requirements outlined in the official Flight Research Operations Manual.  Discuss discrepancies with designers as necessary.
  • Inspect the work of Aircraft Mechanics as required.  Sign off on inspections and aircraft log books as appropriate, and (with A&P license number) if the aircraft is under FAA license. Complete and sign off on aircraft logs and work sheets in the proper manner.
  • Keep abreast and maintain files of aircraft manuals, service bulletins.   Attend pre-flight and post flight briefings as necessary.   Maintain, operate and troubleshoot complex research systems installed in the aircraft.  Maintain currency in aircraft manuals, service bulletins.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, manuals and procedures for mechanics.  Inspect size and soundness of fabricated parts and sub-assemblies intended for installation in aircraft.
  • Service and maintain aircraft and ground support equipment.  Responsible for mechanical soundness of aircraft.  From drawings and sketches, layout, fabricate and install, special modifications without compromising aircraft structural integrity or accepted aircraft standards. 
  • Perform or direct servicing, towing, starting and maintenance of the assigned aircraft and ground support equipment.  Remove and install controls, electrical units, hydraulic components, engines and engine components.  

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Formal aircraft mechanics trades training
  • Possess an Airframe and Power Plant ratings and Inspector Aircraft license from the FAA
  • 10+ years experience in field

 

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Layout, fabricate and install special modifications to the aircraft.
  • Use of precision tools, measuring devices, instruments, etc.
  • Required to adhere to procedures and requirements outlined in the official Flight Research Operations manual.
  • Ability to travel.

Salary Range (min)

USD $36.00/Hr.

Salary Range (max)

USD $44.00/Hr.
