Calspan’s Automotive Testing Services, located in Buffalo, NY, is a leader in advanced vehicle and component testing, supporting major automotive and motorsports customers around the world.

 

As an Electrical Engineering Technician, you will operate, maintain, and upgrade equipment used for automotive crash testing. You will support and improve electrical and software-based test systems used for data collection and quality control while working closely with engineers, technicians, and customers in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair and upgrade test systems to maximize operational availability, and the fidelity and accuracy of all test data. Manage equipment calibration, repairs and procurement.
  • Help maintain and improve controls and data acquisition systems on test machine Including setup of instrumentation, programming in Matlab, Python, Labview, PLC. Provide support to controls engineer and testing staff on a on-going basis.
  • Maintain, improve and document data processing workflows. Support testing staff to ensure consistent and accurate data processing results. Work on existing code in Matlab, Python, LabView.
  • Operate test machine, produce data as required by customer on an as needed basis. Understand all facets of testing and be able to fill operator vacancies periodically.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • AAS in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar in related discipline
  • 3+ years in related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above

Preferred Knowledge / Ability: 

  • Troubleshooting mechanical or electrical problems
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Perform operations and execute test procedures for engineering, scientific, or real-time data acquisition
  • Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Testing and inspection principles and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

The salary range provided is a general guideline. Actual pay will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and other applicable qualifications.  Calspan is committed to pay transparency in compliance with applicable state and local laws.
